Signs point to new iPad, iPad Mini in March, analyst says

If you just bought a new iPad, you won't be happy to learn that Apple may be coming out with new models as early as March.

Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White said that, based on information from last week's electronics trade show in Las Vegas, he expects the Cupertino, Calif.-based company to have new versions of the iPad and the iPad Mini two months from now.

"Our checks at (the International Consumer Electronics Show) indicate Apple will release the iPad 5 and the second-generation iPad Mini this March," Business Insider quoted White as saying.

So what can we expect in the new iPads? White reportedly said the fifth-generation iPad will be lighter and thinner than the last version. As for the Mini, he said only that he expects it to look similar to the first version of the 7.9-inch tablet.

Other reports have the iPad Mini getting a stronger processor and/or perhaps adding the high-resolution Retina display technology found on the iPad.

If Apple does come out with a new iPad and iPad Mini in March, that would be an extremely quick turnaround for the company.

Typically, Apple launches new versions of its devices each year, but the most recent iPad models launched in November — they'd be just 4 months old come March.
